April 12th – April 13th
Reader’s Theatre
OTA’s Readers Theatre Club is a brand new addition to OTA’s programming as of 2025. I Smile at the Sun will be the next installment of their production lineup . Under the leadership of Cathy Dodd, the group meets twice a month and is open to the public to anyone who wants to be a part of it. Readers Theatre is a paired down version of a production where there are no sets, costumes, or props and the performers read directly from the script. It is designed to be a focus on the words of and story of the playwright.
Washington state playwright Judith Barrett Lawson’s play I Smile at the Sun is touted as “A play for children and misidentified grownups.” Fourteen misidentified adults will bring Lawson’s delightful poems to life. Her writing has been compared to the likes of Shel Silverstein and Dr. Seuss. It is both playful and poignant. This play, suitable for children and adults (misidentified or not), will make you smile, reminisce about your own youth, laugh out loud and wipe a tear from your eye.
