For thousands of years, the ancestors of the Chemakum and S’Klallam people managed the bountiful resources of Indian Island and Oak Bay. Join us on a 2-mile-roundtrip walk along the Portage Canal trail as we explore the rich history of this beautiful area. There will be two hikes, at 10 AM and 12:30 PM, and are approximately 90 minutes long. This is a partnership program with the Jefferson County Historical Society – tickets are available through the JCHS website (www.jchsmuseum.org) and cost $45 for members of NOHC or JCHS, and $60 for general public. The hike will be at a slow pace across level terrain, but please wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy shoes.
