PORT ANGELES – Two local residents were arrested this week after investigations led them to drug activity out of local motels.

49-year-old Manual Martinez and 52-year-old Katharine Ewing were arrested after investigations in and near the establishments in Port Angeles.

Investigators say Tuesday detectives were performing surveillance on Martinez in the area of the Aircrest Motel and observed him conducting what appeared to be drug transactions.   Martinez was arrested and found to be in possession of 5 bindles of suspected heroin. Each bindle weighed 1.4 grams, for a total amount of 7 grams. Martinez was taken into custody approximately 100 feet from the Kids Campus preschool.

Detectives were later granted search warrants for individual rooms at the Travelers Motel and Holiday Lodge.

During the search at the Travelers Motel, Katharine Ewing was contacted and found to be in possession of approximately 1.7 grams of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Ewing’s juvenile granddaughter was located in Ewing’s room along with additional items of drug paraphernalia. Detectives took the child into protective custody and turned her over to Child Protective Services.

During the execution of the search warrant at the Holiday Lodge, detectives discovered 5 strip of Suboxone in a room belonging to Martinez.

Ewing was booked into the Clallam County jail for possession of a methamphetamine. She has since been released.

Martinez was booked for two counts of delivery of heroin, one count of delivering heroin within 1000 feet of a designated school bus stop, possession of heroin with the intent to deliver, and unlawful possession suboxone. He remains jailed.
