CLALLAM BAY – Clallam Bay Corrections Center was locked down over the holiday after one inmate allegedly stabbed another.

Clallam County sheriff’s deputies were called to the prison in the morning of July fourth where an inmate allegedly stabbed another inmate with a shank.

Deputies say they retrieved the shank shortly arriving. It was found on the floor of the day room beneath stairs that allow access to the prison cells in the upper level of the unit.

During the investigation deputies interviewed witnesses to the assault which took place on the stairs within the day room which is a closed custody unit within the prison. 26-year-old inmate Brian D. Rivas is suspected of stabbing 29-year-old inmate Trenton J. Johnson with a shank.

Johnson was stabbed one time in the back. The wound was described by the prison’s medical staff as being superficial. Johnson was medically treated within the prison and his stab wound did not require the inmate to be taken to a hospital.

DNA samples obtained from the victim and suspect will be sent to the Washington State Crime Laboratory for comparison with any DNA which may be found on the edged weapon.

The prison’s investigative unit is currently reviewing video footage of the assault and will be forwarding the video evidence to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

Rivas is currently being investigated on charges of possession of a deadly weapon within in a state correctional facility and assault in the second degree in the case.
