prowls

Port Angeles – Two men have been arrested in what authorities call their involvement in a local crime spree.

Tuesday, Nicholas Read and Anthony Cotrell were booked into the Clallam County Jail for vehicle prowling and theft charges.

The case broke when Clallam County deputies responded to a vehicle prowl in progress near the Dollar Tree store east of Port Angeles Tuesday. Then about an hour later, another prowl and theft were reported at the Lincoln Street Safeway in Port Angeles.

Another hour later, sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a man acting suspiciously in the Port Angeles Walmart. That man was later identified as Anthony Cotrell and had placed a large number of items in a shopping cart and tried to flee through the parking lot.

When confronted outside by a Walmart employee, investigators say Cotrell pushed the cart away and got in a Volkswagen Jetta that drove off.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the car. That’s when deputies say Cotrell confessed to trying to steal the Walmart items. He also said his associate, Nicholas Read, was still in Walmart stealing more items.

Cotrell also said Read had prowled a vehicle at Dollar Tree earlier in the day.

After getting a search warrant for the car, cops found drugs and drug paraphernalia as well as a chainsaw and items reported stolen from a vehicle at the Safeway parking lot.
