PORT ANGELES – A suspect in a car theft managed to kick a window out of a moving patrol car early Saturday morning and had to be chased down by the deputy.

At about 1:30 am, Justin Cox, 31 years-old, was found passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Gupster Road west of Sequim. Methamphetamine was found in Cox’s possession.

On his way to jail, Cox started violently kicking the door and windows in the back seat of the patrol car, damaging the door and smashing out the window. Cox then jumped out of the moving patrol car as they neared Front and Race Streets in Port Angeles.

Deputy Eric Morris was able to chase Cox down near Francis Street. Due to injuries sustained from jumping out of the vehicle, Cox was transported via ambulance to the Olympic Memorial Center where he was treated for superficial injuries and cleared for incarceration.

Cox was booked on multiple charges including auto theft, drug possession and resisting arrest.
