PORT ANGELES – The BMX track at Lincoln Park in Port Angeles has been growing in popularity and in reputation this year thanks in part to improvements made using a $50,000 Lodge Tax grant awarded last year. That money was used so successfully that the City Council has okayed an additional $55,000 grant for further upgrades.

A new starting gate and track layout has brought in regular riders from all over western Washington, and also allowed the club to host a national qualifier tournament and the state finals, events they hope to bring back again next season.

Here’s Track Operator Sean Coleman:

Coleman says the latest grant will be used to replace 30-year-old fencing around the perimeter, to construct a safer approach to the parking area, and to finish paving the track’s corners. Not only will that make the track faster and safer for the riders, but Lincoln Park will then be the only track in western Washington with all corners paved.
