CLALLAM COUNTY – Fans of the Olympic Discovery Trail will be pleased to learn that an influx of State and Federal grant money has recently come through that will improve and extend the trail beginning next year.
Transportation Program Manager Rich James says the County just received a $2 million grant from the State Conservation and Recreation Office for the Spruce Railroad Trail.
James says the County also just received a Federal grant of $5.1 million to build an entirely new section of the Discovery Trail from Forks to La Push.
That grant money won’t be available until 2021, but James says they’ll need that time for planning and to acquire right-of-way.
