CARLSBORG — A school bus was involved in a three-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning on U.S. Highway 101 near Carlsborg Road, resulting in one injury and the arrest of a driver for suspected DUI.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 6:10 a.m. when a black 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 43-year-old Stuart G. Bury of Sequim, failed to stop and rear-ended two vehicles stopped at the intersection—one of which was a school bus.
The bus, a 2018 model, was being driven by 77-year-old Richard H. Johnson of Sequim. Johnson sustained injuries in the collision and was transported to Olympic Medical Center for treatment. Fortunately, no students were on board at the time. The second impacted vehicle was a 2014 Peterbilt truck driven by 43-year-old Hunter F. Blackburn, also of Sequim, who was not injured.
Authorities confirmed that drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. Bury was arrested and faces charges of DUI and following too closely. His vehicle was totaled, while the school bus sustained reportable damage.
The crash led to temporary traffic disruptions on U.S. 101 as emergency crews responded.
