PORT ANGELES – A 2-year project to remove four barriers to fish in Clallam and Jefferson counties is scheduled to begin in 2 weeks on Monday, February 24.

Three of the barriers, Tumwater, Lees, Ennis creeks, are beneath Highway 101 in Port Angeles. The fourth is Chimacum Creek on State Route 116 in the Port Hadlock area.

Construction at Tumwater Creek in Port Angeles will close 101 near West Nicholas Road for 80 days. A signed detour will lead travelers around the closure onto the Tumwater Truck route instead of using Lauridsen and Lincoln.

Work at that location is expected to take about a year.

The work at Lees and Ennis creeks is scheduled to begin in March, though no exact date has been announced. The creeks are under 101 just east of Port Angeles, between Del Guzzi Drive and Brook Avenue.

Travelers will see nighttime lane closures early in the project as contractors set up the work zone. There will be no daytime lane closures on 101 during the work. Instead, there will be shifted lanes and a speed limit reduction to 25 mph.

Construction will last about two years at Lees and Ennis Creeks.
