SEQUIM — With the recent resignation of Kathy Downer, the City of Sequim is now seeking applicants to fill the vacant seat on the City Council. But there isn’t much time to apply.

To be considered, applications are due to the City Clerk no later than noon on Friday, January 24. The City Council will interview selected applicants during a public meeting on Monday, February 10 at the Civic Center.

The appointee would begin serving immediately after taking the Oath of Office and would serve until the 2025 General Election results are certified. If the appointee would like to serve the remainder of the term for Position 1, set to expire at the end of 2027, he or she must be elected by voters in November of 2025.

Applicants must be registered voters of the City of Sequim, have a one-year continuous period of residence in Sequim at the time of appointment, and hold no other public office or employment under the city government unless authorized specifically by state statute.

By Washington State Law, the City Council is required to fill a vacant position within 90 days of the vacancy.

For more information or to receive an application, visit the City website sequimwa.gov/67/City-Council.

Applications are a public record and will be distributed as part of Council meeting materials.
