Port Angeles – Former Mayor of Port Angeles Cherie Kidd was crowned Ms. Senior World last week at the pageant in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Kidd, a Port Angeles native, represented Washington State in this event featuring delegates from all over the U.S. and multiple countries. She begins her reign immediately with several appearances already scheduled throughout the United States, Norway and Puerto Rico.

Kidd sees herself as part of a growing movement that encourages seniors to look beyond traditional limitations and, particularly for aging women, to strive to remain active, engaged, and relevant.

“Exactly. And that’s what I’m doing. And that’s what I’m representing. I’m kind of a trailblazer. I’m going places and doing things that seniors haven’t done, to let people know that we can accomplish whatever we want to. We belong everywhere. It’s a movement to encourage senior women to set your goals, use your power, use your experience, and don’t let age be an excuse. It’s no longer an excuse. It’s whatever your capabilities and talents are. Well then, use them. And learn new skills.”

Kidd, who was Ms. Senior Washington going into this latest event, was a member of the Port Angeles City Council from 2008-2020, where she served as Deputy Mayor and Mayor. She owns AAA Affordable Storage with husband Bob Forsberg.

Kidd is a member of the Port Angeles Kiwanis Club and was elected Lt. Governor for 2024-25. She is past President of the Soroptimist Club of Port Angeles and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Michael Triebert Chapter.

“You never stop having goals. You never stop accomplishing things. You never stop growing as a person. Seniors are just as capable as everyone else, except we have the wisdom and experience. And that’s our power.”
