PORT ANGELES — In high school bowling action, the Sequim Wolves bowled over the Roughriders, taking four of the seven matches.

The Roughriders won game one by 119 pins but cooled off in game two. Zoey Van Gordon led the way with scores of 149 and 175 for a two-game high of 324. Lucy Townsend posted a two-game total of 252, Kennedy Ring scored 237, Xoey Penn finished with 234, and Lizzy Clark added 199. For Sequim, Kimberly Heintz averaged 168, while Victoria Neva had a 127 average.

The Peninsula Pirates men’s basketball team is heading to Skagit Valley for a three-game crossover tournament, starting Friday with a 4 p.m. tipoff against Big Bend. The Pirates will play Evergreen State on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Yakima on Sunday at 2 p.m. Both the Big Bend and Yakima games will be broadcast live on KONP Newsradio.

The Pirates lost close games to 3rd-ranked Tacoma and 9th-ranked South Puget Sound in Tacoma. The team has been starting 5’11” sophomore Patrick Odingo and 6’1″ sophomore Deshawn Rushneyer at guard, with 6’5″ sophomore Antonio Odum, 6’2″ freshman Isaiah Lopez, and 6’5″ freshman Akeem Sulaiman on the front line. Former Roughrider and 6’5″ freshman Isaiah Shamp has been a standout off the bench, averaging 16 points and three rebounds per game.

The Pirates need to improve their rebounding after being out-rebounded 78-56 in their first two games. They also need better three-point shooting, having gone 11-for-47 (23%) in Tacoma.

Former Steven’s Stampeder Kade Acker is a freshmen on the #1-ranked Tunwater football team and is 2 wins away from a state championship
