Port Angeles – Olympic National Park plans to begin a water infrastructure project up at Hurricane Ridge that involves some digging, and there’s some concern that the project could impact two archaeological sites that have significance for the Port Gamble, Jamestown and Lower Elwha Klallam Tribes.

On Friday, park officials published a Memorandum of Agreement describing mitigations for the adverse impacts of the project, set to begin in the spring of 2025.

The park has consulted with the Tribes and the Washington State Historic Preservation Officer to identify mitigations for those impacts, and the Tribes have been invited to sign the Memorandum of Agreement to agree to the proposals.

There is a public review period that opened Friday, November 15 and will go through Saturday, November 30, 2024.
