PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Roughriders have two more chances to secure their first win of the season.
Their odds look better this Friday night against Bremerton than next Friday at home, where they face an Olympic team that is in first place and averages 280 lbs on the offensive line.
However, the Knights are likely two-touchdown favorites and have been playing solid football recently. In league games, the Knights are averaging 17 points per game while their stingy defense is allowing just 22 points per game.
The Roughriders have struggled on both sides of the ball, averaging only 8 points per game while giving up 37 points per game.
In their last two games, the Knights put up a strong fight against Olympic, losing 24-14, and then dominated North Mason last Friday, 35-14.
Senior Ken Najera alternates between tailback and quarterback. Najera has rushed for 491 yards, averaging 7 yards per carry, and has scored 3 touchdowns. Bremerton has only passed for one touchdown all season, so the Roughriders will likely load the box with defenders.
The game will be broadcast on KONP Newsradio. The Firehouse Grill pregame show begins at 5:30 p.m., featuring an early look at the upcoming basketball season with Roughrider head basketball coach Kasey Ulin. The Dustin Clark Show will follow, and the Roughrider Locker Room Show will feature Aiden Otis and Ian Smithson.
The Roughrider VIP Halftime Show will highlight Roughrider junior Pyper Alton, a member of the soccer team and a Legends Sports car race driver.
