PORT ANGELES — In high school soccer action last night, the Port Angeles Roughriders defeated Sequim 2-1, keeping their hopes of tying Kingston for third place and securing a higher seed going into the district tournament alive.

Both teams struggled to get quality shots on goal, but Roughriders sophomore Morgan Politika ended the scoring drought with a point-blank shot, assisted by freshman Mariah Traband. Traband wasn’t done making big plays, scoring in the 57th minute with an assist from Teanna Clark to give Port Angeles a 2-0 lead.

The Wolves finally got on the scoreboard in the 68th minute with a goal by Sasha Yada, assisted by Kiley Winter. The Wolves are now 4-7 in league play, and if they win their remaining games, they could finish in fifth place.

The Roughriders improve to 7-5, while Kingston, after losing 3-0 to Bainbridge, sits at 8-4, just one game ahead of Port Angeles. Kingston will travel to Port Angeles on October 29. Port Angeles heads to Bremerton on Thursday, while Sequim visits North Kitsap on Friday night.

In volleyball action last night, Sequim swept Port Angeles 3-0.

In swimming today, Bremerton visits Sequim for a 3:30 p.m. meet.

The Olympic League tennis tournament begins this morning at North Kitsap, starting at 8 a.m., and continues throughout tomorrow.
