SEQUIM – Sequim celebrates a purple herb again this weekend.

Friday marks the start of the annual “Lavender Festival”.

Sequim, renowned for its lavender, hosts the 28th run of the festival. Things start about mid-day Friday and run through Sunday. The event, started in 1997, features U-pick lavender, photo opportunities, and various lavender products like lotions, candles, and ice creams. Nearly 20 farms participate, offering tours, vendors, and music at farms scattered throughout the Sequim area.

The main festival at Carrie Blake Community Park includes 145 vendors and live music from Lavenderstock. A special park dance is set for Saturday night featuring the premiere local Olympic Peninsula band Black Diamond Junction from 7-9 pm.

Additional events include barn dances at Victor’s Lavender Farm, “Lavender Dreams” by Olympic Theatre Arts, “Jesus Christ Superstar” by Ghostlight Productions, the Sequim Farmers & Artisans Market, and the Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Show.
