Sequim — A house fire in Sequim Wednesday began as a brush fire when the call came in at 3:00pm. Fire District 3 responded to find a fully involved fire in a two-story single-family home.

Fire officials reported Thursday that all available career firefighters were deployed to the incident, prompting a call for volunteers to report to their assigned stations.

The residence at 564 Cascade View Dr. was unoccupied at the time of the fire. A resident in the Diamond Point area, who spotted the fire through a telescope, made the initial 911 call. Fire crews learned from a neighbor that the homeowner was not present, so no search was conducted inside the burning building.

Three water tenders were used to keep a continuous water supply as several structural collapses occurred, including one exterior wall collapsing onto a classic car.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

And an early morning house fire in the west end of Port Angeles Thursday ended with no serious injuries, but a family of 5 lost their home.

The Port Angeles Fire Department was dispatched at 12:37am to the structure fire in the 1600 block of W 6th Street. A passerby called in to report heavy smoke and flames coming from the occupied home.

Firefighters arrived to find that all occupants were out of the building and accounted for, and quickly went to work getting the fire put out. The fire was brought under control by 1:15am, and declared “out” at about 02:30.

Crews returned to the scene at 8:25 to extinguish a couple of small flare-ups.

The family was connected with the Red Cross by 2:00am. Two of them were evaluated for smoke inhalation and minor burns.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
