PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports of phone scammers impersonating law enforcement officials. Callers, identified as “Restricted Caller” or “Clallam County Sheriff’s Office,” claim recipients missed jury duty or have warrants, demanding fines or bonds. Several residents have been defrauded of thousands of dollars.
Scammers use “spoofing” technology to mimic the Sheriff’s Office number, often operating from abroad. Authorities advise hanging up immediately on unsolicited calls.
Residents with concerns about call legitimacy should contact the Sheriff’s Office at 360-417-2262. Victims of scams can report to Dispatch at 360-417-2459 (Option 1).
