PORT ANGELES — One week from tonight, the high school basketball season begins right here on KONP Newsradio and it’s a big one as Kasey Ulin’s Roughriders host Sammamish. Sammamish made last year’s state tournament while the Roughriders missed the sweet-16 regional by one game.

Ulin has announced his 13-man roster. Seniors are Kason Albaugh, Dallas Dunning, William Ruddell, Ezra Townsend, Andrew Halberg, Parker Nickerson and Isaiah Shamp.

The juniors are Keatyn Hoch, Gus Halberg, Blake Sohlberg and Alex Angevine. Sophomores are Donovan Heins and Matthew Miller.

North Kitsap will be the media’s pick to win the league, while Port Angeles and Bremerton will have enough talent to have a shot at the state tournament. Do not count out Sequim, as the Wolves will have enough talent to compete with Port Angeles and Bremerton.

Dec 7th, the Roughriders are at Bremerton in a game you can also hear on KONP.

The first Sequim boys broadcast will be a tough home contest against Clover Park on Dec 5th.

It’s NWAC basketball action this weekend with the Peninsula Pirates men’s team playing in three games Friday through Sunday at the Skagit Valley Cross Over Tournament. Friday, the Pirates play Big Bend at 5 pm. Saturday, the Pirates play Gray’s Harbor at 2 pm. On Sunday, the Pirates play Clark College at 2 pm. Friday’s and Sunday’s games will be broadcast on KONP.

Former North Kitsap Viking, 6’5″ forward Aiden Olmstead, should be able to help the Pirates get a couple of wins this weekend at Skagit Valley
