PORT ANGELES — Former local high school athletes are set to get their college basketball seasons going.

Let’s start in Arcata California at the NCAA D2 Cal Poly Humboldt. That’s where former Port Angeles Roughrider and Peninsula Pirate star Millie Long, to no one’s surprise, had an outstanding freshmen soccer season. Long helped led the Lumberjacks to a 13-5-2 record, good enough to make it to the CCAA semifinals. Long was highlighted for scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win over Cal State Dominquez. It was Long’s 7th goal on the season and at the time Long was the 2nd leading goal scorer in the conference.

Long for the season played in 18 games scoring 8 goals with 7 assist. Long is now getting ready for the basketball season.

Millie Long had an outstanding soccer season for Cal Poly Humboldt

Former Roughrider Eve Burke, a 5’7″ sophomore at Linfield College in McMinnville Oregon, had a solid freshman season for a Wildcat team that went 10-15. Burke played in 25 games averaging 6 points per game 4 rebounds per game and shooting 94% from the free throw line. Burke also had 27 steals and 16 assists.

Former Roughrider Jaida Wood is a 5’9″ junior at PLU. In her career, Wood has played in 42 games with one start. Woods is averaging 3 points per game while shooting 61% from the free throw line. Wood has 20 assists, 13 blocks and 13 steals. Wood and her Lutes will host Eve Burke and her Wildcats January 27th with the tip off at 4 pm.

The NWAC power Lower Columbia College Red Devils in Longview have a former Roughrider and a former Neah Bay Red Devil.  Former Roughrider Bailee Larson is a 5’9″ sophomore. Last year, Larson played 10 minutes per game averaging 3 points per game to go with a total of 21 steals and 14 assists. Former Neah Bay Red Devil Courtney Swan is a 5’7″ sophomore. Swan had an outstanding freshman season playing 23 minutes per game while averaging 8 points per game with 60 steals and 40 assists.

The Red Devils play the Peninsula Pirates in Port Angeles on December 3rd at 2 pm. That game will be broadcast live on KONP.

The Peninsula Pirates have former Sequim Wolves’ stars Hannah Bates and Jelissa Julmist along with former Neah Bay Red Devil Allie Greene.
