Photo: The Roughriders have a tough road test at Renton tonight

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Roughriders boys swim team finished 5th at the district tournament which means the entire team qualifies for the state meet in Federal Way.  Swimmers finishing 8th place or higher included the 200 medley relay which came in 6th with Blake Nahory, Aiden Butterworth, Will Roening and Landon Close.

The 200 free style relay team finished 4th with Keane McClain, Finn Thompson, Landon Close and Alex Che. Davis Hueter finished 8th in the 500 freestyle.

Blake Nahory finished 4th in the 100 backstroke. Alex Che placed 7th in the 100 freestyle. Landon Close placed 7th in the 100 butterfly.

It’s the opening night of the Bi-District girls basketball tournament tonight. The #1 seed Sequim Wolves (14-0 and 18-1) will be huge favorites as they host #8 seed Clover Park (9-5 and 9-8).  The Wolves are averaging 52 points per game while giving up 37 points per game. Clover Park is averaging 43 points per game and giving up 39 points per game. Tonight’s tipoff is at 6 pm. The winner will play Thursday night against the winner of the #4 seed Enumclaw #5 Sammamish game probably at Mount Tahoma HS.

The #6-seed Port Angeles Roughriders (11-3 and 11-9) will be big underdogs tonight as they travel to #3-seed Renton (11-1 and 15-4). Renton has a high-powered offense that scores 57 points per game and gives up only 31 points per game for a 26 points per game difference. The Roughriders average 43 points per game and give up 38 points per game for a 5 points per game difference. The winner will play the winner of the #2 seed White River – #7 seed North Kitsap game. The loser will play the loser of the #11 seed North Mason – #14 seed Orting game Thursday night.

Tonight’s Roughriders game will be broadcast on Newsradio KONP and on the stream at myclallamcounty.com. The Les Schwab Tires pre-game show starts at 5:45 pm with the tip off at 6 pm. Oly Archibald has the play by play and former Washington Husky Deontae Cooper has the color commentary.

The Klahhane Gymnastics team spent the weekend in Everett and Mukilteo and brought home 22 top 3 medals.  The Bronze team and Gold teams are pictured.
