SEQUIM– There is now no doubt who the “king of the hill” is in girls high school basketball on the Olympic Peninsula. The #1 ranked 1B Neah Bay Red Devils had too much fire power for the 2nd ranked 2A Sequim Wolves last night beating Sequim convincingly  70-55. Sequim who has been great on defense all season long giving up just 37 points per game had no answer for the Red Devils intricate offense that more often than not found wide open shooters or lay ups off back cuts to the basket.

Senior Allie Greene scored all of her 21 points in the first half, but Sequim hung on going inside to Jelissa Julmist who scored 20 points inside the paint. The Wolves trailed by 10 points at the half 44-34. The Red Devils opened up a 15 point lead and led 60-45 at the end of 3 and the Wolves never seriously threatened the Red Devils again. Junior Ryana Moss had a big time performance with 17 points. Junior Amber Swan, like she did against Port Angeles, hit for 15 points. 5’7″ freshman Angel Halttunen an upcoming star had to guard Wolves point guard Hannah Bates and did a nice job holding her to her 11 points per game average. Bates tried again to will her team to a win, but the Wolves without Jolene Vaara could not find enough offense. Wolves 6’0″ Jr Dani Herman had a career high of 7 points.

The Red Devils now 16-1 and the Wolves 18-1, wait for the district tournaments. Red Devil senior Allie Greene was voted Player of the Year on the Olympic Peninsula by the KONP broadcast team and on the post-game show received a $50 gift certificate from the Firehouse Grill Burgers and Fries.
