PORT ANGELES — In high school swimming action, the Port Angeles Roughriders boys swim team could not keep up with class 3A state swim power Bainbridge. The Spartans out swam the Roughriders 127-43.
There were some individual winners for the Roughriders. Colby Ellefson placed 1st in the 500 free style. Ellefson also placed 2nd in the 200 free style and Alex Che placed 2nd in the 100 free style. Che also placed 3rd in the 50 free style, Davis Hunter placed 3rd in the 500 free style and Finn Thompson finished 3rd in the 100 back stroke.

In high school basketball action the Sequim Wolves boys were outscored 25-7 in the first quarter against visiting Bellingham who knocked off the Wolves 57-54. The Wolves got back in the game Saturday out scoring the Bay Hawks 16-7 in the 2nd quarter and trailed by 9 points 32-23 at the half. Zack Thompson led the Wolves with 14 points, Vincent Carrizosa hit for 11 and Keenan Green had 10 points.

In NWAC action, the Peninsula Pirate men won their 6th game in a row knocking off Highline 81-56. Mikey Medlock Jr led the Pirates with 22 points. Former Roughrider Gary Johnson hit for 12 points as did Roosevelt Williams Jr. Malik Jackson hit for 10 points. The Pirates are now 13-1 and will open Northern Division play Wednesday at Bellevue. This will be the beginning of the live broadcasts of Pirate basketball here on KONP News Radio of the Northern Division road game doubleheaders for the women and the men’s team. The Women will tip of at 5 pm and the men at 7 pm.

The “Count Down of the Showdown at Sundown” is on as the state’s 2nd-ranked Sequim Wolves girls basketball team comes to the Port Angeles Roughrider Gym Tuesday with a 5:15 pm tip off to face the Roughriders in what is almost a must win game if the Roughriders have any hope of winning the Olympic league championship.
