PORT ANGELES – A Port Angeles man was arrested after an hours-long standoff with police Sunday night.
37-year-old Josiah Matthew Curry was arrested about midnight Monday morning.
About 9 am Sunday, Port Angeles Police responded to a domestic disturbance report. A suspect allegedly assaulted the victim at a home where the two lived together near 10th and “D” streets. During an interview at the police station later that morning, investigators learned more specifics about the attack that occurred Saturday night. The suspect allegedly pinned the victim to the floor, punched the victim in the face several times, strangled the victim, took the victim’s cell phone, and would not let the victim leave for about three hours. With the info, officers developed probable cause and got a search warrant for the house about three Sunday afternoon.
Officers went to the house to serve the warrant. That’s when Curry barricaded himself inside. After eight hours of negotiations were unsuccessful, police brought in an armored vehicle to flatten a portion of fence. Officer then launched several pepper spray canisters. Curry surrendered without further incident. He was evaluated by medics and transported to the jail.
