PORT ANGELES – A Port Angeles man was sentenced Thursday in Superior Court to serve 8 months in the County Jail for assaulting 3 police officers in January.
42-year-old Jeremy Leis’ case began on January 29 when officers were called to a local motel on a report that a male in a ski mask and a leather outfit was causing a disturbance. Before officers arrived, Leis left on his motorcycle.
While they were there, officers took a female into custody for a Department of Corrections warrant. During that arrest, Leis, who is 6’2” and almost 300 pounds, came back on his motorcycle and tried to stop officers from arresting the woman.
His threats and challenges to fight the officers was met with pepper spray, and during a struggle he was tased and handcuffed. That led to 3 counts of Assaulting an Officer and another for Resisting Arrest.
The officers involved were Deputy Chief Jason Viada, Officer Whitney Fairbanks and Officer Kelly Perry.
