PORT ANGELES – The only partisan race on the ballot in Clallam County, didn’t have the parties listed on the ballot.

Clallam County auditor Shoona Riggs says the primary ballots for the Clallam County Commissioner District No. 1 race between Democrat Mark Ozias and Republican Brandon Janisse were sent to voters without information relating to the candidates’ party preferences.

Today, her office will mail a notice to all voters in that district with party those preferences.

Riggs say she and her and staff met with the impacted candidates and representatives of the Republican and Democratic Parties. Riggs says under state law, they can’t reissue corrected ballots now that voting begun.

In a prepared release, Riggs called creating and proofing ballots a complex and multifaceted process. She says a statewide change to a new registration and tabulation system last month also added to the issue. Due to the change, the Clallam County election tabulation system had to be reprogrammed after initial ballot proofing had taken place.

Riggs says she’ll meet with the elections division review the step-by-step process for the general election.
