SEQUIM — In girls fastpitch yesterday, in a game you heard here on KONP Newsradio, the Sequim Wolves played by far their best game of the year, falling to a young but talented North Mason Bulldog team 8-3.
The Wolves trailed by just two runs, 5-3, going into the sixth inning. Sequim got on the board in the first when Rylie Doig led off with a double and Mia Kirner followed with an RBI single. The Wolves scored two more runs in the fourth when Ava Ritter singled, Kylie Winter laid down her second bunt single of the game, and Rylin Whitehead’s single brought home Winter.
Kylie Winter was also outstanding in left field, making multiple tough catches. Senior pitcher Mickey Greene pitched a solid seven innings.
The Wolves will be favored when they travel to Bainbridge on Monday for a game you can hear on KONP Newsradio.
Meanwhile, the Port Angeles Roughriders cruised to an 18-0 win over Bremerton, with the pitching combination of Lynzee Reid and Sophia Ritchie tossing a shutout. Reid pitched three innings, earning the win with three strikeouts. Ritchie came on in relief, earning the save with two innings and three strikeouts. Both pitchers also helped themselves at the plate — Reid hit a home run, and Ritchie collected two hits.
Sophomore shortstop Morgan Politika hit her first career home run. Kennedy Rognlien had two hits, Mariah Traband added two more, and Adi Richard contributed a double.

In golf action, the Roughrider girls outshot North Mason 204-218. Autumn Wilson Rowland led the way with a 47, Claire Osterberg shot a 50, Malena Marquez carded a 51, and freshman Lainey Rudd posted her best score of the year with a 56. Layla Parker shot a 61, and Mya Callis a 68.
The Roughrider boys continued their hot streak, defeating North Mason by 11 strokes, 163-174. Cale Wentz led the way with a 36, Austin Worthington had a strong day shooting a 38, Max Gagnon shot a 43, and Tate Alton and Kolby Charles each carded 46s. Noah Myers rounded out the scoring with a 47.
Port Angeles finished league play at 9-1, and all seven varsity golfers have qualified for the league championships on Monday.
The Sequim Wolves girls golf team continued to dominate, blowing out Kingston 219-279. Raimey Brewer led the way with a 48, Kendra Dodson shot a 50, Chloe Tweter carded a 59, and Rachel McDougal shot a 62.
