Motorcyclist Injured in Crash Near 101/104 Interchange

DISCOVERY BAY — A 20-year-old Sequim man is recovering after a motorcycle crash Friday evening along State Route 104, just east of U.S. Highway 101, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Troopers say the crash occurred at approximately 5:54 p.m. when Cole D. Smithson lost control of his 2023 Kawasaki EX650 while traveling eastbound in lane two. An investigation found Smithson was may have caught gravel near the shoulder, causing the bike to slide out from under him. Smithson veered off the roadway to the left, and the motorcycle came to rest in the median.

Smithson’s family reports he suffered major “road rash” but no broken bones or internal organ damage. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His family says he is in good spirits and continuing to recover. No other vehicles or individuals were involved in the incident. Smithson was wearing a helmet

The Washington State Patrol confirmed no charges have been filed.
