UNDATED — The Port Angeles Roughriders kept their momentum rolling on the golf course this week, with both the boys and girls teams turning in dominant performances against Kingston.
For the girls, it was a strong showing across the board. Autumn Wilson Rowland led the way with a match-best — and career-best — 46. Claire Osterberg wasn’t far behind, carding a 48, while Malena Marquez added a solid 51. It was also a big day for a trio of newcomers. Layla Parker and Izzy Spencer each shot a 67 in their first-ever matches, and Lainey Rudd posted a 69.
The boys’ team was just as impressive, overpowering Kingston 169-271 in what could only be described as another stellar outing for the Riders. Sky Gelder topped the leaderboard with a smooth 41, followed by Cale Wentz with a 42. Austin Worthington, Tate Alton, and Max Gagnon were right on their heels, each shooting a 43. Kolby Charles rounded out the scoring with a 59.
On the softball diamond, the Roughrider girls edged out Olympic in a close 4-3 contest. Mariah Traband sparked the offense, going 2-for-3 and driving in three of Port Angeles’ four runs. Abby Rudd, Abby Kimball, and Heidi Leitz each chipped in an RBI, helping the Riders hold their lead. In the circle, Leitz was dominant through five innings, striking out 10 before handing the ball to Lynzee Reid, who shut the door over the final two frames to earn the save.
There’s a full slate of competition on tap. In girls soccer, Olympic visits Sequim for a 7:00 kickoff, while North Kitsap heads to Port Angeles with game time set for 7:15. And in boys tennis, Bremerton is in town to face the Riders, with the first serve scheduled for 4:00.
