Man arrested for attempted murder in park shooting

BY PEPPER FISHER

Port Angeles – There was a shooting in a Port Angeles park Thursday morning.

Deputy Police Chief Jason Viada said the incident began at 7:40am.

“Officers responded to 911 Memorial Park at the north end of Francis Street to a report from a man who called emergency dispatch saying that another man was at the park and was trying to shoot him. officers arrived on scene moments later and detained those involved. The initial investigation indicated that at least one shot had been fired that no people were struck by gunfire, but that a car was hit by at least one bullet.”

Viada told us Thursday morning that investigators were still on site processing the crime scene, and later called us with a follow-up report.

“We have booked the suspect into jail. He’s booked in for attempted murder one. We have continued to investigate the crime scene, and talked to the people involved. And we understand that this is an extension of a domestic disturbance that was happening yesterday, involving two men and a woman. And there was a conflict between the two men at the park this morning, and they were involved in a vicious physical confrontation, during which both of them were injured. And we have probable cause to to believe that the suspect attempted to murder the victim, fired a round, which actually struck the victim’s motor vehicle, very close to the victim’s head, during the confrontation. That was a very close call.”

38-year-old Brian Lester was booked into the Clallam County jail for attempted murder, first degree.
