PORT ANGELES — Bainbridge proved to be too much for the Port Angeles boys soccer team, handing the Roughriders a 4-1 loss. The Riders’ lone goal came in the 58th minute, when Kanyon Anderson sent in a perfect corner kick that found the head of Grant Butterworth, who knocked it home for the score.

Looking ahead, both Port Angeles and Sequim are back in action tomorrow night. The Roughriders hit the road to take on Olympic, while Sequim travels to North Mason. Kickoff for both matches is set for 7:00 p.m.

On the baseball diamond, Port Angeles battled Nathan Hale to a 6-6 tie in a game that saw plenty of offense from both teams. Nathan Hale had better luck against Sequim over the weekend, topping the Wolves 12-1 on Saturday.

Tomorrow, both Port Angeles and Sequim are on the road again. The Riders head to Bainbridge, while Sequim makes the trip to North Mason. First pitch for both games is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.

In fastpitch softball, Port Angeles wrapped up a busy stretch with mixed results. The Roughriders dropped an 8-3 game to Liberty, bounced back with an 8-6 win over Roosevelt, and finished with an 8-8 tie against Battleground. The team is back on the road today, traveling to Bainbridge for a 4:00 p.m. start. Sequim will also be on the road, facing North Mason at 4:15.

On the tennis courts, Sequim hosts North Kitsap this afternoon at 4:00 p.m., while Port Angeles is set to host Olympic tomorrow at the same time.

And on the college softball front, former Port Angeles standout Zoey Smithson continues to shine for the Pacific Lutheran University Lutes. Now playing both catcher and outfielder, Smithson has picked up right where she left off after a strong 2024 season. Last year, she started 44 games, hit .285, drove in 16 runs, scored 25 times, and recorded 11 doubles and three home runs.

This season, Smithson has been on fire. Through just the third week, she was named Northwest Conference Hitter of the Week. She’s currently batting an impressive .559 with 33 hits, 27 runs, 7 doubles, 4 triples, 5 home runs, 23 RBIs, and 3 stolen bases.

Former Roughrider Zoey Smithson is having an all-confrence season for PLU.

The Lutes are 12-6 overall and 2-4 in conference play. They’ll host Linfield for a two-game series this week—Tuesday’s game starts at 1:00 p.m., with a second game Wednesday at 3:00.
