OLYMPIA – Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife shellfish managers confirmed seven straight days of razor clam digs on coastal beaches beginning this Saturday, March 8.

The low tides will occur before sunset each day resulting in daylight digs for a change, according to razor clam manager Bryce Blumenthal, who’s hoping the swell and weather cooperate.

As usual, not all coastal beaches are open for every dig, so diggers are encouraged to make sure their intended destination is open before heading out.

Saturday’s low tide is at 2:13 p.m. After that, the clocks spring ahead for daylight savings, and by the time you get to Friday, March 14, the low tide will be at 7:30pm.

Tentative dates begin again on March 26.

And while we’re on the subject, one of the best seafood festivals of the year – the 17th Annual Ocean Shores Razor Clam & Seafood Festival, is coming up March 21-23. Admission is free.

Highlights include the Clam Chowder Tasting Contest, Fresh Whole Dungeness Crab Dinners, Food Court, Sunday Crab Benedict Brunch, Vendor Village with 100 booths, live music, a giant European slide, and Clam Gun Decorating Contest.
