LOCAL SPORTS: Sequim Wolves Battle Lindbergh for State Spot; Port Angeles Girls Face Cedarcrest in Regionals

TACOMA — Tonight, the Sequim Wolves take the court against the Lindbergh Eagles, battling for a spot in the state tournament in Yakima. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. at the UPS Fieldhouse. The Wolves last made it to the state tournament during the 2012-2013 season, where they placed sixth with a 2-2 record. Fans can catch all the action live on Newsradio KONP, with the Les Schwab Tires Pre-Game Show beginning at 5:45 p.m.

In other regional matchups, third-seeded Bremerton faces Stanwood, which just pulled off an upset over top-ranked Lynden. Meanwhile, 13th-seeded Bainbridge goes up against 12th-seeded Franklin Pierce.

On the girls’ side, the 10th-seeded Port Angeles Roughriders take on 15th-seeded Cedarcrest on Saturday morning at the UPS Fieldhouse, with tip-off scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Last year, the Roughriders fell to West Valley of Spokane, 48-41, in the regional round. The team hasn’t placed at the state tournament since the 2000-2001 season, when they finished fifth. Saturday’s game against Cedarcrest will also be broadcast on Newsradio KONP, with the Les Schwab Tires Pre-Game Show starting at 9:45 a.m.

Other district teams are also in action. Bainbridge, the eighth seed, faces top-ranked Lynden. Eatonville, ranked 11th, takes on 14th-seeded Ridgefield, while 17th-seeded North Mason meets 13th-seeded Renton.

The Neah Bay Red Devils, the two-time defending 1B state champions, enter the tournament as the number one seed and will face eighth-seeded Pateros on Saturday at Mount Tahoma, with a 2:00 p.m. tip-off. Meanwhile, the fifth-seeded Neah Bay boys’ team travels to Richland tonight to take on fourth-seeded DeSales at 6:00 p.m.

On the college basketball front, Millie Long and her GNAC champion University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves will take on Saint Martin’s tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. in Lacey.
