PORT ANGELES — Before basketball aficionados get to March Madness, they still have to get through February Mayhem, and KONP Newsradio will broadcast five big District 3 basketball games in the next five nights.

It all starts tonight when the No. 6 seed North Mason Bulldogs come to town to take on the No. 3 seed Port Angeles Roughrider girls in a quarterfinals matchup.

During the league season, the Bulldogs opened with an eye-opening 30-29 win at Port Angeles. It became an even bigger eye-opener when the Roughriders blew the Bulldogs out of Mason County 55-38.

North Mason had it easy Saturday, beating an overwhelmed Orting team 65-17 in round one.

North Mason is led by 5’7″ senior Adrianne Tupolo, who averages 16 points per game. Tupolo is getting a lot of attention from NWAC coaches.

Both the Roughriders and Bulldogs struggle on offense, with both teams scoring at 45 points per game.

North Mason Bulldogs senior guard Adrianne Tupolo averages 16 points per game and has NWAC coaches taking notice.

The winner will move on to the semifinal and most likely a date with No. 2 seed Eatonville, who plays No. 7 seed Clover Park tonight. The Cruisers have been cruising ever since they got point guard Bailey Andersen back from injury. Andersen averages 23 points per game and is the leading all-time scorer in the history of Eatonville basketball. Inside, the Cruisers have 6’4″ senior Lillian Bickford, who averages 13 points and 8 rebounds per game. Since Andersen returned from injury, the Cruisers are averaging 70 points per game.

Tonight’s game will be broadcast here on KONP Newsradio, with the Les Schwab Tires Pre-Game Show starting at 5:45. Oly Archibald has the live play-by-play, with Greg Thomas and Bill Bates handling the color commentary.

Tomorrow night, the No. 9 seed Roughrider boys travel to No. 1 seed Bremerton with a 7:00 tip-off, and the No. 3 seed Sequim Wolves host No. 11 seed Foss at 6:00. That game will also be broadcast on KONP Newsradio.

Roughriders Alex Angevine and Gus Halberg joined the KONP Newsradio Post-Game Show after Port Angeles defeated Fife 60-47. Halberg led the way with 29 points. The Roughriders now face No. 1 seed Bremerton tomorrow night in Bremerton, with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m.

With the NWAC tournament just 15 days away, the 3rd-ranked Peninsula Pirates are getting healthy at the perfect time.

The Pirates knocked off a tough Olympic team 91-65, and the great news was that Shania Moanunu and Alecsis Smith are both playing again.

Even though Smith played just 11 minutes, she hit for 13 points with 5 rebounds. Shania Moanunu hit for 12 points. With Smith back, it gives the Pirates a legitimate chance to compete with Lane and Umpqua for the NWAC Championship.

Against the Trojans, Ciera Agasiva led the way with 26 points. Former Sequim Wolf Jelissa Julmist hit for 10 points while pulling down 11 rebounds. Trojan and former Pirate and Neah Bay Red Devil Allie Greene hit for 11 points.

The Pirates will open up the NWAC tournament Wednesday, March 5th, in Pasco against the 4th-place team from the Southern Conference at noon.

The Pirates will have a tough matchup at Whatcom Wednesday night at 7:00.

The Pirate men earned a badly needed win over Olympic 103-92. Akeem Sulaiman led the way with 36 points, Isaiah Lopez hit for 21 points, Deshawn Rushmeyer scored 18 points, and Jaiden Blackmon hit for 11 points. The Pirates, 6-5 and 12-12 overall, travel to No. 1 ranked Skagit Wednesday night with the tip-off at 5:00.
