SEQUIM -– Voters in the Sequim School District have approved two key funding measures in the Feb. 11 special election, ensuring continued support for educational programs and critical school improvements.
Proposition 1, a four-year replacement Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) levy, passed with 67.9% approval. The levy funds extracurricular activities such as athletics and music, student technology, transportation, and underfunded staff positions, including counselors, nurses, and special education personnel.
Proposition 2, a construction bond to modernize facilities and enhance safety, was approved with 65.72% of the vote. The bond will fund the replacement of Helen Haller Elementary School, renovations at Sequim High School, new security measures districtwide, a cafeteria for Greywolf Elementary, upgrades to athletic facilities, and improvements to transportation and parking areas.
Approval of both measures results in an estimated local tax rate of $1.85 per $1,000 of assessed property value, a $0.56 increase.
