PORT ANGELES — Joann Fabrics will close its Port Angeles store as part of a nationwide downsizing following the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
The store at 150 Port Angeles Plaza is among more than 530 locations slated to shut down, with the retailer citing financial struggles, shifting shopping habits, and restructuring needs. This marks Joann’s second bankruptcy in less than a year.
A court motion filed Wednesday seeks to close about two-thirds of the company’s 800 remaining stores. Washington will lose 11 locations, including those in Everett, Lynnwood, Tacoma, and Spokane.
Joann, a staple in the crafting world for more than 80 years, has faced declining foot traffic, rising costs, and increased competition from online sellers. The company went private in April 2024 under a previous restructuring deal but continues to struggle financially.
Joann has not yet announced severance details or transfer opportunities for affected employees. Closing sales are expected to begin soon, with the store likely shutting permanently in the coming months.
