PORT ANGELES — A house fire broke out Friday night near W 6th St and Cherry St in Port Angeles.

Firefighters arrived around 8:54 p.m. after multiple calls from neighbors, some fearing that a person and a pet were still inside. They found flames extending up to the second floor of the home.

No people were found in the home, but firefighters located the family’s dog. They attempted to revive the pet, but it did not survive.

The Port Angeles Fire Department (PAFD) responded with an engine, a ladder truck, and a chief officer, while Clallam County Fire District 2 provided additional support. Engine 11 was the first to arrive, finding heavy fire spreading. Firefighters entered the home, searching for occupants and working to put out the fire.

Crews also helped the homeowner by securing and removing valuables to prevent further smoke damage. Their quick response kept the fire from spreading to nearby homes.

A total of 20 personnel responded, including firefighters from PAFD and Clallam County District 2.

The home was left uninhabitable. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
