SEQUIM — The Sequim City Council held a special meeting Monday night to conduct interviews with 5 of the 7 applicants for the vacant seat on the City Council.

Interviewed candidates were Kelly Burger, Patrick Day, former Mayor Tom Ferrell, Denny Luce and William Stone.

Another round of interviews is scheduled for this Thursday night to meet with the 2 final applicants, R.C. Weber and Pete Tjemsland.

The Council is expected, but not required, to appoint a new member at Thursday’s meeting. The new member would begin serving at the following regular City Council meeting on Monday, February 10 after a swearing-in.

The City Council position is vacant due to the resignation of Councilor Kathy Downer for personal reasons. By Washington State Law, the City Council is required to fill a vacant position within 90 days of the vacancy.
