PORT ANGELES — The 2024-25 Port Angeles Roughrider Bowling team has made history in the Roughriders’ record books. In dramatic fashion, the Roughriders edged out Selah by just four pins to qualify for the State Tournament this Friday and Saturday in Tukwila. This marks the first time in the program’s three-year history that the Roughriders have qualified as a team for State.

It was a total team effort, and as usual, Zoey Van Gordon had the hot hand, rolling a 206 in Game 1. In Game 2, Xoey Penn stepped up with a score of 164, and in Game 3, Kenadie Ring delivered a personal best with a 164.

In the end, the Roughriders secured their trip to State with a narrow victory over Selah, winning 2,722 to 2,718.

Roughrider Head Coach Becky Gunderson was elated with her team’s performance. “What an exciting tournament! I am so proud of these five bowlers. We kept our energy and focus and bowled above our season average to secure the final spot at State. Zoey Van Gordon placing 7th overall was a big accomplishment, and Izzy Spencer bowling 21 pins above her average was huge!”

Leilah Franich, Xoey Penn, Kenadie Ring, Izzy Spencer, and Zoey Van Gordon will travel to Tukwila on Friday for the State Bowling Tournament.

The Sequim Wolves also qualified two bowlers for State—Victoria Nava and Skyler Krzyworz.

Roughrider bowler Zoey Van Gordon and Sequim bowler Kimberly Heintz were interviewed on KONP Newsradio at halftime of the Sequim – Port Angeles basketball game Friday night. Van Gordon placed 7th leading her Roughriders to State.

High school basketball action resumes tomorrow night with a huge game for the Sequim boys at North Kitsap. A win would put the Wolves in position to play for a share of the Olympic League Championship at home on Thursday against Bremerton. Tomorrow night’s Sequim game at North Kitsap will be broadcast live on KONP Newsradio at 7:00.

Sequim Wolves Ethan Melnick and Jamison Gray had huge games in their win over Port Angeles. Melnick and Gray are seen here on the KONP Newsradio post game show with Greg Thomas. Mega Wolf fan Art Green is congratulating his Wolves.

The Sequim girls will host North Kitsap, while the Port Angeles Roughrider girls will be heavy favorites at home against Bremerton. Meanwhile, the Roughrider boys will travel to Bremerton to take on Jalen Davis and the league-leading Knights. All games tip off at 7:00.
