SHORELINE — In NWAC basketball action last night, the 3rd-ranked Peninsula Pirates knocked off Shoreline 59-35 for their 14th win in a row.
The Pirates again showed their depth as Shania Moanunu was once again held out, and freshman Makena Patrick was also sidelined with a hamstring issue.
It took a while for the Pirates to get their cannons adjusted, as the Dolphins led 14-12 after the first quarter.
Midway through the second quarter, the Pirates found their moxie, outscoring Shoreline 17-6 to take a 29-20 halftime lead.
The Pirates came out of the locker room at halftime on a 12-point run to put the game away.
Sophomore Ciera Agasiva was outstanding once again, scoring 13 points, including three 3-pointers. Agasiva also pulled down six rebounds while adding three assists and four steals.
Former Sequim Wolf Jelissa Julmist was back to her old self, scoring 13 points, pulling down 12 rebounds, and dishing out three assists.
Lexie Mackey had her typical strong performance with 12 points, eight rebounds, and four steals.
Freshman Carliese O’Brien continued her outstanding season, scoring eight points while grabbing nine rebounds and adding four assists.
Former Neah Bay Red Devil freshman Ryana Moss contributed eight points, four rebounds, and two assists.
The Pirates are now 7-0 in conference play and 15-2 overall.

The Peninsula men’s team, however, blew a 12-point lead with eight minutes left and fell to Shoreline 80-77.
Shoreline, with a front line featuring three 6’7″ players, outscored the Pirates in the paint 54-28 and outrebounded them 38-29.
Pirate freshman guard Isaiah Lopez had another great shooting night, scoring 26 points, including four of eight from the three-point line.
Jaiden Blackmon added 18 points, Akeem Sulaiman scored 12, and Cinco McNeal contributed seven points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
The Pirates are now 3-4 in conference play and 9-11 overall.

Peninsula is off until February 5th, when they host Bellevue.

In high school basketball action tomorrow night, Sequim hosts Port Angeles in a doubleheader, with the girls tipping off at 5:15 and the boys at 7:00.
