LOCAL SPORTS: Stevens Middle School Teams Dominate Port Townsend; High School Basketball Action Heats Up Tonight

PORT ANGELES — In middle school basketball, the Stevens 7th-grade team beat Port Townsend 47-2.
For the Stampeders, Maddie Wright earned high-scoring honors with 18 points. Pepper McCaslin added 10 points. Mila Johnson scored 6 points, Olivia Hines contributed 5 points, and Camila Gelvin and Kaleah Quilt each scored 2 points.

The Stevens 8th-grade team defeated Port Townsend 53-9.
Maddie Wright led Stevens with 12 points, Nyah Langdon scored 9 points, and Kya Baker and Maelyn Benedict each added 8 points. Darcy Ring scored 5 points, Mariah Disque contributed 4 points, and Pepper McCaslin chipped in 3 points.

In high school basketball action tonight, the big girls’ game is at North Kitsap, where the Roughriders (7-3 in league) take on North Kitsap (8-2) for sole possession of 2nd place.
The game will be broadcast live on KONP Newsradio with the Les Schwab Tires Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45 p.m., followed by the tip-off at 7:00 p.m.

Roughrider Becca Manson (#22) and her teammates will try to reclaim 2nd place in the Olympic League standings against North Kitsap tonight.

The Sequim Wolves girls vs. Olympic has been cancelled due to illness with the Sequim team.

In boys’ action, the Sequim Wolves (8-2) are big favorites over 4-6 Olympic at Rick Kaps Gym.

Wolves seniors Charlie Grider and Ethan Melnick will aim to get back on the winning track at home against Olympic tonight at 7:00 p.m.

Port Angeles (2-8) will host North Kitsap (4-6), while Bainbridge (8-2) travels to Bremerton (9-1) tonight.

Each team has four league games remaining before the district tournament begins on Saturday, February 15th.

In NWAC action, the Peninsula Pirates travel tomorrow to Shoreline for a doubleheader, with the Pirate women tipping off at 5:00 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on KONP Newsradio.

In high school swimming action, the Port Angeles Roughriders travel to Kingston tomorrow for their final league match starting at 3:30 p.m., ahead of the Olympic League Tournament finals this weekend in Poulsbo.
