BAINBRIDGE — It was not a good night for area high school basketball teams, except for the Sequim Wolves boys, who beat North Mason 63-48. The Wolves are now 8-1 in league play and 13-1 overall. They have a huge game at Bainbridge Friday night. Speaking of the Spartans, they beat Port Angeles last night 41-38. The Spartans have won 10 games in a row, with their last loss at Sequim.

The Roughriders now fall to last place in the Olympic League with a 1-8 league record and a 6-10 overall record.

The Sequim girls lost to North Mason 38-28. The Wolves are now 2-7 in league play and 3-10 overall.

In a game you heard on KONP Newsradio, the Bainbridge Spartan girls dominated Port Angeles 54-30. The Roughriders were never in this game, trailing 20-10 at the end of the first quarter. Turnovers doomed the Roughriders. They only scored two points in the second quarter and managed just seven points from the start of the second quarter to the end of the third quarter. Bainbridge led after three quarters, 42-17.

Lindsay Smith led the Roughriders with 13 points, and Teanna Clark scored 12 points. Spartan point guard Bella Ramirez, on an off shooting night, still managed 23 points. The Spartans, who appear to be the class of the district, lost to 1A Lynden Christian last week, 67-35.

In bowling action, Port Angeles beat North Mason 4-3 and by 50 pins. Leilah Franich led the way with a two-game total of 326, including a personal best single game of 172. Xoey Penn bowled a 320, Zoey Van Gordon a 292, Brooklyn McKnight a 258, and Lucy Townsend a 247.

There is NWAC basketball action tonight at Peninsula College as Skagit Valley comes to town for a doubleheader. The 3rd-ranked Pirate women’s team tips off at 5:00 PM, and the Pirates men’s team tips off at 7:00 PM. The Skagit Valley men are ranked #1 in the NWAC.

Two former Roughriders return home: Paige Mason and Parker Nickerson, both of whom play for the Cardinals. A packed house is expected, but if you cannot make the game, you can hear it live on KONP Newsradio with the Les Schwab Tires Pre-Game Show starting at 4:45 PM. Oly Archibald and Joe Gladfelter will have the play-by-play.

Roughrider junior Pyper Alton survived the desert scorpions and rattlesnakes, as well as 50 of the top Legends sportscar racers on the West Coast, at the Chilly Willy 150 at Tucson Speedway.

In three 25-car main events last Friday through Sunday, Pyper impressed opposing drivers and fans that packed Tucson Speedway.

  • On Friday, Pyper started 20th, and even though she was involved in a wreck that damaged her rear bumper, she still finished 11th.
  • On Saturday, Pyper had a great qualifying morning, starting 12th on the 6th row. After getting involved in another wreck, she still finished a strong 9th place.
  • On Sunday, Pyper qualified 14th and finished 12th.

Pyper Alton in her #42 Ledgends sports car placed 9th in the main event last Sunday at Tucson Speedway.

Pyper will start her 2025 season in April at her two favorite tracks: the Wenatchee Oval Speedway and Evergreen Speedway in Monroe!
