PORT ANGELES — Police are investigating a high-speed chase on First Street yesterday afternoon involving a suspect with a felony warrant and a history of carrying weapons.

The incident began around 2:50 p.m. when officers attempted a traffic stop at a gas station. The suspect fled, leading officers on a chase down Washington Street and onto First Street, a one-way road. Police ended the pursuit shortly after, citing safety concerns.

“The suspect was driving westbound at a high rate of speed against one-way traffic,” Sgt. Dave Arand said. The suspect’s vehicle was later found abandoned near the Port Angeles library, but the individual remains at large. Detectives are processing evidence and have urged anyone with information to contact authorities. They’ve not released the name of the suspect, but Arand tells Newsradio KONP he expects more information will be released soon.

Police say the community is not under specific threat but advise caution as the investigation continues.
