PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Roughriders bowling team edged out North Mason for a 4-3 win.
Once again, Zoey Van Gordon came up big in the clutch.
With the Roughriders down nine pins in the last frame, Van Gordon threw a strike to secure a 686-685 victory. The Roughriders also won the first Baker game by one pin, 136-135.
Van Gordon bowled a two-game total of 332. Kenadie Ring rolled a 265, and Leila Franich bowled a 199, throwing five consecutive strikes in Game 2.
In swimming action, the Roughriders boys team put up a strong fight against state powerhouse Bainbridge, despite falling 104-79. First-place finishers included Thomas Jones in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Finn Thompson in the 100 freestyle, and Grant Butterworth in diving. The Roughriders’ 200-medley relay team and 400-freestyle relay team finished just two seconds behind Bainbridge.
The 5-0 Sequim Wolves boys basketball team will be on the road tonight at 5-1 Olympic. The game will be broadcast on KONP Newsradio, with the Les Schwab Tires Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45 p.m. and tip-off at 7:00 p.m.

The 1-3 Sequim Wolves girls basketball team will travel to face 1-4 Foss tomorrow for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
The 2-3 Port Angeles Roughriders will travel to Chehalis on Saturday for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off against the WF West Bearcats. The 1-3 Bearcats have faced a brutal schedule, with losses to state powers Mark Morris, Prairie, and Ridgefield in quadruple overtime. The Bearcat roster features several players from WF West’s state football team.
The Bearcats are led by 6’3″, 260-pound senior power forward Carlos Vallejo, who averages 19 points per game. Senior forward Grady Westlund, at 6’4″, averages 10 points and 13 rebounds per game, while 6’2″ senior guard Weston Potter contributes 11 points per game. Gage Brumfield, a 6’4″ senior and former Bearcats quarterback, has signed to play linebacker at Eastern Washington University. Brumfield scored 18 points in the Bearcats’ loss to Prairie on Wednesday. His older sister plays basketball for Montana State.

The big question for Roughrider fans is whether the team will bounce back from their last-second, improbable loss to North Kitsap on Tuesday night. Saturday’s game will be broadcast on KONP Newsradio, with the pre-game show at 4:45 p.m. and tip-off at 5:00 p.m.
The Roughriders will take a Christmas break before heading to Yakima for a December 27th, 2:00 p.m. tip-off against Quincy at the Yakima SunDome. On December 28th, they will face East Valley of Yakima. Both games will be broadcast on KONP Newsradio.
Former Port Angeles Roughrider Jaida Wood had a solid game for the PLU Lutes against Northwestern University. Although the Lutes lost 82-75, Wood, a senior, came off the bench to grab 10 rebounds and score seven points.
