DISCOVERY BAY – A three-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 101 near Discovery Bay Thursday evening left one man dead and another seriously injured, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:05 p.m. when a southbound Honda Accord driven by a 92-year-old Brinnon resident struck a northbound Ford Expedition and then collided head-on with a Jeep Gladiator. The Jeep veered off the road, crashing down an embankment, while the Honda came to rest in the roadway. The Ford remained on the shoulder with minor damage.

The driver of the Honda was transported to Harborview Medical Center, where he later died. His name has been withheld pending notification of next of kin. The 65-year-old Sequim man driving the Jeep, Rockie Lee, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center.

The driver and passenger of the Ford Expedition, a 67-year-olds Gary and Susan Grube were not injured.

Authorities cited failure to maintain a lane as the cause of the crash. Drugs or alcohol were not involved. Both the Honda and Jeep were totaled, and the Ford was driven from the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
