PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Nichols is still looking over the investigative results of a deadly shooting involving two Port Angeles police officers last spring.
May 3, Officers shot 38-year-old Joseph Hadden outside Chase Bank after responding to a hold-up alarm. Police say Hadden was armed with a handgun.
Nichols said he has all the documents he needs, including a detailed investigation by the Kitsap Critical Incident Response Team which handled the investigation.
“It is under review actively. I’ve started that review process. I’m not done with it and I will not know whether I have a need for additional investigation until I’m done with my first review of all the materials,” Nichols told Newsradio KONP. “If I don’t require any additional investigation, then I’ll go about the process of reaching a decision and reducing that to writing.”
Autopsy details, like toxicology results, remain confidential for now. Nichols has said he will share the findings of the investigation with the public once he is finished with his review.
“It’s a top priority matter. There are law enforcement officers who are awaiting a result. The broader community and family members of the deceased individual all deserve to know and so it’s something that I’m prioritizing getting done,” said Nichols.
The Port Angeles Police Department is conducting its own internal review.
