LOCAL SPORTS: Pirates earn season soccer honors

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula Pirates soccer teams earned notable recognition on the NWAC All-Northern Conference teams.

The Pirates women’s team placed seven players on the All-League roster, with Shawn Larson named Offensive Player of the Year and Evee Stodard earning Defensive Player of the Year. Emme Crystal and German Rowland were selected for the First Team, while Ana Petty and Risa Nishida made the Second Team. Kanyon Anderson was honored as Coach of the Year.

On the men’s side, Nil Grau was named Offensive Player of the Year, and Laurn Lottow received Defensive Player of the Year honors. First Team selections included Konrad Mueller, Ezrah Ochoa, and Jereme Kuclo, while Noe Garfias and Sid Gunton-Day were named to the Second Team. Head coach Jake Hughes was also awarded Coach of the Year.

Both Pirates teams will compete in the NWAC Final Four on Friday at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila. The undefeated Pirate women (13-0) face Spokane (10-0-4) with a 1:30 p.m. kickoff, while the Pirate men (13-1-2) play Walla Walla (15-2-4) at 3:00 p.m.

The third-ranked Peninsula Pirates women’s basketball team faces a challenging schedule next week, playing sixth-ranked Columbia Basin, fourth-ranked Walla Walla, top-ranked Lane, and seventh-ranked Lower Columbia College. The season opener is set for tomorrow night against Columbia Basin, with a 6:00 p.m. tip-off, followed by a matchup against Walla Walla on Friday at 3:00 p.m. Games at Lane and Lower Columbia will be broadcast on KONP Newsradio next weekend.
