Ever dream of managing a National Forest campground? Now’s your chance

OLYMPIA — The Olympic National Forest is redeveloping an old campground called Satsop Center, and they’re looking for people who might be interested in providing public services there.

Forest officials are now seeking expressions of interest to provide public services at the 15-acre site that sits on a historic logging camp location southeast of Wynoochee Lake in Grays Harbor County.

The site was temporarily closed in early January due to safety concerns and maintenance needs. Several structures on site were no longer serviceable and were removed for safety. Remediation work was completed in September, so the Forest Service is ready to pursue the next chapter of public use at Satsop.

The Request For Expressed Interest (RFEI) is the first step in a dialog between the Forest Service and people interested in exploring new opportunities for the future of Satsop Center.

The work center offers various facilities and services including camp sites, RV sites, groups sites, and government owned buildings.

Public or private entities with interest in managing the site are encouraged to visit the Forest Service website where you can get a description of the opportunity, Forest Service policy, and submission criteria.

Respond to the RFEI by submitting a RFEI Submission Form (Appendix C) to Kathryn.Mcgillvray@usda.gov with the subject line ‘Satsop Work Center RFEI Submission’ (preferred method) or send a written Submission Form by 5 p.m. on Dec. 20, 2024, to:

Olympic National Forest Supervisor’s Office

1835 Black Lake Blvd SW

Olympia, WA 98512

Interested parties are also encouraged to attend a site visit to Satsop Center on Dec. 3, 2024, and a virtual question and answer session with the Forest staff on Dec. 4, 2024.

To attend either event please RSVP by Nov. 22, 2024, with Kathryn McGillvray, Supervisory Forest Recreation Manager at Kathryn.Mcgillvray@usda.gov.
