BAINBRIDGE — Teanna Clark of the Port Angeles Roughriders scored a penalty kick in the 62nd minute, giving her team a 1-0 lead over the fifth-ranked Bainbridge Spartans, who had only conceded one goal in their Olympic League season. Despite the upset alert, the Spartans rallied to score twice, securing a 2-1 victory over a young Roughriders team that played its best game of the year.

The Roughriders, now 9-8, remain in contention for a state tournament berth. They face Steilacoom (11-2-4) tomorrow night at Steilacoom, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. A Roughrider win would advance them to a winner-to-state, loser-out game on Saturday against the loser of the North Kitsap vs. Fife matchup.

The Peninsula Pirates soccer teams will host the NWAC Quarterfinals this Saturday. In today’s women’s match, Tacoma faces Portland, with the winner set to play the Pirate women Saturday at noon. On the men’s side, Tacoma plays Lane College today; the winner will meet the Pirate men on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

In NWAC men’s basketball, former Peninsula Pirate forward Malik Jackson, now with the University of Alaska Anchorage, scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds in his debut against Warner Pacific.

KONP Newsradio has added two extra high school basketball broadcasts to its schedule. On December 2, the Roughrider girls’ season opener will air at Forks. On January 2, KONP will broadcast the Sequim Wolves girls’ game against East Jefferson in Port Townsend, with a 3:30 p.m. tip-off.

Damun Seera of the Roughriders swim team finished first in the 100-meter butterfly at the Olympic League swim meet. Seera is one of 10 Roughriders competing in the district meet this weekend.

Former Roughriders Paige Mason and Parker Nickerson have joined the Skagit Valley College Cardinals basketball teams as a package deal.
